Hankook Tire is a South Korean tire manufacturer that was established in 1941 under the name Chosun Tyre in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The brand took its current name only in 1978. In Korean, Hankook simply means "South Korea". So, according to its name, Hankook is the tire brand of Korea. The brand has invested heavily in tire technologies. Today, Hankook has 5 R&D centers in Korea, Germany, China, Japan, and the United States, and more than 22,000 employees worldwide. This enabled the Korean tire brand to become the 7th largest tire producer in the world in 2017 with 104 million units produced that year. While Hankook is mainly known for its passenger car tires, the Korean tire manufacturer also produces batteries, brake pads, and wheels. Hankook is heavily involved in football and is an official sponsor of the UEFA Europa League, Real Madrid, AS Monaco, Borussia Dortmund, SSC Naples. In terms of motor sports, Hankook sponsors and exclusively supplies the tires of the DTM, the German touring car championship.
